Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti 2023: Significance and history

 However good a Constitution may be, if those who are implementing it are not good, it will prove to be bad.

Each year April 14 is celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr.  B R Ambedkar. This day is declared as a national holiday and various events and activities are conducted across the country to celebrate this occasion.

Also known as the ' Father of Indian Constitution' , Dr. B R Ambedkar was born on April 14 in 1891 in the military cantonment of Mhow in Madhya Pradesh to Ramji Maloji Sakpal (an army officer of the rank of Subedar) and Bhimabai Sakpal.

 

Dr. Ambedkar was born as a so-called dalit and was considered as untouchable by the society. From sitting on a separate gunny sack in the classroom  (separate from the so-called upper caste students), to becoming the ' Father of Indian Cosntitution', Dr. Ambedkar's contribution towards Indian society can never be forgotten. Despite facing discrimination in the classroom, Dr. Ambedkar went on to become one of the most prominent and revered leaders of our country.

Dr Ambedkar was a social reformer, jurist and a politician who played a significant role in India's srtuggle for independence from the British colonial powers. Additionally, his role was very instrumental in drafting the Indian Cosntitution. He was the first dalit of the country to receive a doctorate in Economics and became the first law minister of independent India.

On Bhim jayanti, aslo known as Ambedkar Jayanti, rallies, speeches and seminars are condcuted all over India and people from all walks of life participate in such activities. In 2023, marking the 132nd birth anniversary, this occasion is being celerated with great zeal and enthusiasm. 

Dr B R Ambedkar will always be remembered for his great contribution towards building an Indian that has a vibrant and ever-changing Constitution as its foundation.
